Town Portal

Chronopoly (2012)
Bandcamp

Math metal from the earliest stages of the Earth. Beauty amongst molten rock, shifting plates, and violent storms. This Copenhagen instrumental band chose to title their album Chronopoly. I would have to agree that it does quite dominate all of the chron. Heavy, melodic, progressive, math metal, GET IT.

Cleanup

Wherever Your Place May Be (2012)
 Bandcamp

Experimental Rock from Texas. They're only asking fifty cents for this five song release.

Hail the Sun

Elephantitis (2012)
Bandcamp

A strange mixture of Dance Gavin Dance style guitars, Circa Survive/HRVRD style singing, and post-hardcore drumming. The vocals are great, my only complaint is that the lyrical content could have been a bit better, but the instrumentals are spot on.

The Para-Medics

Coheed and Cambria

The Afterman: Ascension (2012)
Download

This has been out for awhile but I'm just coming across it. Artwork is certainly intense, and from what I hear this is an improvement from their last album.

Hurricane Sandy Benefit EP

Hurricane Sandy Benefit EP (2012)
Bandcamp

"So many of our friends and families were directly affected by Hurricane Sandy, we felt we needed to do something to help out. Starting today you can pay-what-you-want & download an exclusive 5-song EP on Bandcamp with previously unreleased b-sides from Circa Survive and Psychic Babble (Colin's solo project), plus remixes of Anthony's solo songs "When I'm On Pills" (Stephen Clifford remix ft. Chris Weyh) and "Get Yours While You Can" (Psychic Babble remix), and an instrumental song by Brendan ... It's all in the family."

Can't forget to mention another beautiful piece of artwork by Esao Andrews, it reminds me of Wind Waker.

Zechs Marquise

Getting Paid (2011)
Download

Three members of this band are brothers to Omar Rodriquez-Lopez, frontman to acts such as The Mars Volta, At the Drive In, and El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriquez Lopez. Instrumental progressive metal with jazz and Latin infusions. This band is stretching the borders of music, but I wouldn't expect less from the Rodriquez-Lopez family. I can't leave out Michael Farraro on the drums and Matthew Wilkson on guitar.

Hello Jupiter

Do I Dare... (2012)
Bandcamp

They said it better than I can:

"The concepts behind this EP revolve around chance and uncertainty. Those moments in life, in which what is seemingly a wrong action, brings us to the right situations and the contrary; that slight hesitation we all endure before making a decision that seems would alter the course of where your life was going; the impending over-analysis that follows of abstaining from that decision and the dwelling on the "what if" factor, and the occasional self-loathing or regret that results consequently. The title "Do I Dare.." is a portrayal of that moment in which you're contemplating that decision."

Circa Survive - Suitcase

 Violent Waves (Aug 28th, 2012)

And it's here, Circa Survive announces their fourth full length album will be released August 28th and a fall tour will follow. The first single entitled "Suitcase" is available for free on their official page. I have watched this band grow and am amazed at their persistent hard work, and they do it all for the fan. I'm proud to call myself a Circa fan and can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Rega

Million (2009)
Mediafire

Rondorina (2008)
Mediafire

Meet Rega, a four piece jam band from Japan. Lots of math rock influence but they pull inspiration from techno, IDM, and breakbeat. This is my ideal party music, but too bad no one else would be able to stand it! They remind me of LITE in a lot of ways. It looks as if a new album is scheduled to come out sometime this year as well, entitled Soft and Plum. I'll be on the lookout for it, but until then you should listen to both these albums and show your support for this amazing music scene.

Stage Kids

Killer Tofu (2011)
Mediafire

I was recommended this album from a friend and I do like it so I figured you might too.  This album has a very soothing aspect to it, I'm hearing bells and harmonics in the background layers that remind me of The Mercury Program. If you enjoy experimental instrumentals then you will enjoy this album.
