Halcyon

Pastures (2011)
Bandcamp

Extremely talented one man jazz metal fusion band from Australia.  Reminds me in many ways of Jakub Żytecki. Awesome "background to life" music.

Chon

Newborn Sun (2013)
Bandcamp

Finally, after 5 years of waiting, the Southern California progressive metal quartet Chon has released a new 8 song EP. It probably took them so damn long because they had to finish high school, these kids were really young when their first release came out. The drummer was 11 so he should be somewhere around 16-17 now.  But anyways, if you haven't heard of Chon you should really give them a listen, the lead guitarist, Mario, is certain to be recognized as one of the greatest guitarists on the scene right now.

Names

Promises (2013)
Bandcamp

"Names was conceived during a high school love affair, beginning as far back as 2007, coming into fruition as early as 2011. Names is intercourse. We’ve been undergoing sisyphean ekstasis for quite some time. American expats in Montreal."

Jazzy Math Rock! This is the band's first release they need all the support they can get. Promises is an intriguing debut by a very promising band, I am hopeful for more in the future.

Father Figure

Congratulations on Your Loss (2012)
Bandcamp

"We are a four piece 'Jazz/Prog' instrumental fusion, paving new sonic pathways with odd meters and psychedelia, while paying tribute to more antiquated striations in movement and sound. Our main focus is being true to our shared musical connectivity, while bringing something dense, constructive, and original to a familiar and tangible flavor."

Jakub Żytecki

Demos 2010
RGhost

Incredible musician from Poland, his music is a woven blend of jazz and metal styles. The music feels godlike and divine, the guitarist's talent is just off the charts. He seems to be rather unheard off, I hope he plans to release more music but I believe this is all there is, but it is more than enough to start with. The production quality is amazing considering its only a demo.

Io

Io (2012)
Bandcamp

I'm a fan of all the jazz and progressive metal fusions that are hitting the scene, it just might be the next big thing. This band certainly does it well, and I believe this is just their first release.  Awesome album artwork.

Zechs Marquise

Getting Paid (2011)
Download

Three members of this band are brothers to Omar Rodriquez-Lopez, frontman to acts such as The Mars Volta, At the Drive In, and El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriquez Lopez. Instrumental progressive metal with jazz and Latin infusions. This band is stretching the borders of music, but I wouldn't expect less from the Rodriquez-Lopez family. I can't leave out Michael Farraro on the drums and Matthew Wilkson on guitar.

Sezession (2007)

Time for a Japanese math rock dump. Mouse on the Keys is a Tokyo based three piece instrumental band. They fuse jazz elements with math rock style. Incredible piano layers over swift drumming leaves the songs swelling with energy. Check it out!

Renaissance Sound

Renaissance Sound (2012)
Bandcamp

Wow this band is incredible. The band name really says it all, math rock base with quite literally, a renaissance sound. Violins, vibrophones, and the occasional vocal. They're just one of those bands that will get you moving upon first listen. This is my favorite find of the morning, I'm going to keep looking but it's going to be hard to top this!

Lingua Franca (2012)
Mediafire

From the band's Last.FM profile, "T.R.A.M. is comprised of Adrian Terrazas (of The Mars Volta) on saxophone, flute, bass clarinet and percussion, Javier Reyes and Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) on 8-string guitars, and Eric Moore (Suicidal Tendencies) on drums. Their debut album “Lingua Franca” was released on February 28, 2012 through Sumerian Records."

Animals as Leaders meets Mars Volta meets jazz? Sign me up.
